Meaning of Name: Andre is French and means “manly”. Sure he looks quite manly, but we’ll see if his personality grows into his looks… he’s kind of a marshmallow. But seriously, we couldn’t be more thrilled that this boy is like a clone of Boone. And, in case you were wondering… there is no connection between his call name and registered name. We both love the band Modest Mouse, and it seemed to suit his personality… as proud as we are of Andre, he doesn’t let it go to his head. I was considering using the name Brock, after the lead singer Isaac Brock, but I figured my friends would truly loose it if I added another name that started with B to our crew (we have Bray, Boone, Brett, and Brody already).
Nicknames: Second Chance (this is after a Bull named “Second Chance” that was a clone of his father “Chance” that was featured in an NPR story). We also refer to him as Prince William (Garrett gets called Prince Harry).
Special Talents: Andre (like Boone, Brett, his uncle Brody, and his siblings) is a smiler, but not nearly as much! He has a total goober of a puppy. It took him some time to get his coordination together, and he would often make us cringe (and sometimes laugh) and how he could fall down doing the simplest of tasks (like while napping on the couch, he would just sort of fall off the edge). Other than this he looks pretty much just like his father and has already smooshed himself up to the number two spot in the house.
Andre is a product of Birdsboro. We are so proud to have bred such a phenomenal Pointer. He has a stellar pedigree of dual purpose (show-field) dogs and is just an awesome dog in every sense – great looks, exceptional temperament, and a good birddog. He reminds us more of his dad, Boone, than of his mother, Brett, as far as his looks go. Can you tell we just love this boy? We only planned to keep one female puppy in Andre’s litter… but we just couldn’t let this boy go. And we are sure glad he stayed.
Andre the Show Dog
Andre has been shown by Erin four days in the bred by exhibitor class. Like his sister, Augie, he has quite an impressive record. At this point, he has seven points and both his majors. He has taken Winners Dog every day, as well as a Best of Opposite over specials on his second day with Erin (his sister, Augie, took the Breed that day). We are so proud of this boy’s good looks (second only to his dynamo personality… we can thank his parents for that). One trait that we really loved in this guy is that he was born very solid, and has always kept his weight on and been well-conditioned. Amazingly, at one point in time he was the smallest one in his litter… but that obviously didn’t last! He is well put together, has a lot of substance, and has very correct Pointer movement. And just look at that face! We think that he has everything we need for our future breeding program. We are thrilled to have him, his sister, Augie, and now their little half-sister, Olive, in our breeding program. Andre’s mother, Brett, has been a phenomenal foundation bitch for us.
Andre the Birddog
Andre has a seriously intense, classic-style point. He points with a level tail and has a great nose. He reminds us a lot of his dad, Boone, in the field (we he goes on point, he is eerily similar). He also is a natural backer and retriever (as are all of our dogs). Andre will have a small range (perfect for foot hunting) and hunts in partnership with us (checking in and coming when called) without any formal training in that area. His parents both swim and Andre is testing the water more and more each time he is out… he has only been around water about a dozen times, and we’ve found with our Pointers, it takes some time to warm up to swimming (unlike the Spinoni who look like they were born in it). Of course, Pointers were not bred to swim, but we think it is fun to do with them none the less (and it helps cool them off on a hot day hunting).
