Meaning of Name: August is English and means “Great”. It is fitting as she got some of the best personality traits of both of her parents. Augie’s registered name is Counting Crows, which is both a favorite band of Erin’s and after her daddy, Boone, who grew up as a city boy in Seattle and crows were his favorite bird species to point at when at the dog park. Counting Crows has an album titled “August and Everything After” and we thought this would be a fitting description of our life (aka Pre-Killian and Post-Killian).
Nicknames: Augie and Smiley
Special Talents: Augie (like Boone, Brett, her uncle Brody, and her siblings) is a smiler… and she is just ridiculous about it!
Augie is a product of Birdsboro. She’s a lovely, feminine girl and takes a little more after her mother than father in looks, but we do see Daddy Boone in there sometimes, especially in her goofy personality and her smile. Augie smiles way too much! She also likes to “talk” with a woo woo sort of noise. She has a stellar pedigree of dual purpose (show-field) dogs and is just an awesome dog in every sense. Guess that is what happens when you breed two great parents. She is a wonderful dog in the field as well.
August the Show Dog
Augie started her show career with a bang. She made her show debut in the summer 2010 in the bred by exhibitor class. In four days of shows, she has 6 points and both her majors. She went Best of Breed over specials on her second day out (and her brother, Andre, went Best of Opposite that day). On her third day out, she went Reserve to a major. On her forth day out, she got her second three point major. We are very pleased that judges and other breeders that have met her feel she has as much promise as we do. Augie has a moderate amount of substance, is a very correct size we believe for a dual-purpose Pointer, and moves like a dream. We think that she has everything we need for our future breeding program. We are thrilled to have her, her brother, Andre, and now their little half-sister, Olive, in our breeding program. Augie’s mother, Brett, has been a phenomenal foundation bitch for us.
August the Birddog
Augie is absolutely beautiful to watch in the field. She has an effortless gait and to watch her run through the field is just an amazing experience. She has a great nose and a seriously intense, classic-style point (with a level tail). She also is a natural backer and retriever (as are all of our dogs). Augie has a great small range (perfect for foot hunting) and hunts in partnership with us (checking in and coming when called) with no formal training in that area. Augie’s parents both swim and Augie is beginning to do the same… she has only been around water about a dozen times, and we’ve found with our Pointers, it takes some time to warm up to swimming (unlike the Spinoni who look like they were born in it). Of course, Pointers were not bred to swim, but we think it is fun to do with them none the less (and it helps cool them off on a hot day hunting).
We will get pictures up of Augie in the field as soon as we take some.

Getting pictures of Augie by herself can be difficult though, because she is such a cuddler.
