About Guster
Gus is a product of Birdsboro. She’s a solid girl and has characteristics of both parents. She has a stellar pedigree of dual purpose (show-field) dogs and is just an awesome dog in every sense. Guess that is what happens when you breed two great parents. Guster unfortunately developed a case of closed pyometra at barely two years of age. She’s such a stoic girl, we only noticed because she skipped a couple meals and wasn’t acting quite like herself… so we did a complete blood count and her white blood cell value was sky high, so we immediately knew what was wrong, did an ultrasound to confirm it, and had her spayed that afternoon. Pyometra is an unfortunate emergency medical issue that occurs frequently in older unsprayed girls, but is fairly rare in young girls. Closed pyometras are also much less common than open pyometras. So, Guster just had some very bad luck. We unfortunately had to spay her as this is the only treatment for closed pyometra (and we would not have risked the life of this sweet girl for a chance to breed her in the future even if it was an open pyometra). We are just so happy that she is now in good health.
Guster the Show Dog
Guster was never shown before she was spayed. Nevertheless she is a pretty dog and deserves this show dog section on her page.

Guster the Birddog
Gus has a seriously intense, classic-style point. She points with a level tail and has a great nose. She also is a natural backer and retriever (as are all of our dogs). Gus has a small range (perfect for foot hunting) and hunts in partnership with us (checking in and coming when called) with no formal training in that area. Guster’s parents both swim and she is beginning to do the same… she has only been around water about a dozen times, and we’ve found with our Pointers, it takes some time to warm up to swimming (unlike the Spinoni who look like they were born in it). Of course, Pointers were not bred to swim, but we think it is fun to do with them none the less (and it helps cool them off on a hot day hunting).
