The Cats
“Casper”, “George”, and “Elliot”
Here are the cats that share their lives with the dogs of Birdsboro. They are Casper (gray tabby), George (orange and white), and Elliot (snowshoe markings). They are an awesome threesome… you really couldn’t ask for better cats.
Casper was a stray that showed up in the parking lot at work, and did his duty as a blood donor before I adopted him. Casper is sort of the dad of the group. He has decided that it is his job to let me know if they are running out of food or if the water bowl is low. And he definitely takes care of the other two.
George was brought to a vet clinic I worked at the age of four months with a torn knee ligament. He was abandoned in an apartment for two weeks by the former tenants and found and brought in by a security company. George is the comedian, and definitely the most dog-like of the group (probably because he is the only one that came as a kitten). George was diagnosed with IBD (Irritable Bowel Disease) in June 2004. Luckily, he has done well on a special diet. Thus, all of the cats only eat specific hypoallergenic foods.
I adopted Elliot from a shelter I volunteered at when his time was up. Elliot is the baby of the group, and likes that the other two look after him a bit more than they should. In October 2005, Elliot became seriously sick with cholangiohepatitis and went into liver failure (and lost a significant amount of weight and he's never been a big boy). With the help of some great vets and a lot of work, we got Elliot through with the use of an esophagostomy tube. In the process (during an ultrasound for his liver biopsy), we found a bladder stone as well; we were able to remove it in December when Elliot and his bloodwork were back to normal. Elliot is now back to his old self.
