Meaning of Name: Garrett means “to watch”, perhaps “to watch and conquer” would have been more appropriate though.

Nicknames: Snugglebug, Gary Goo, Prince Harry, Garrison, Zoolander (he likes to make a face that looks like “Blue Steel”)

Garrett is from my first litter, which was out of Boone and Maya and consisted of only two puppies (Garrett and Gavin). Garrett is the youngest member of the Birdsboro crew. Although now in his teenage period, it appears that he’ll be the mellowest as an adult. Like his dad Boone, Garrett is a very loyal boy and prefers to follow me around and be a “velcro dog”.

Garrett has only been shown one weekend when he was six months old to introduce him to the dog show scene. I am giving him time to grow up and hold his weight before I begin showing him. This picture is of Garrett at nearly two years, and as you can see he’s still a bit gawky. But, I like how he is turning out.

Garrett the Birddog

Garrett has been a bird fanatic since he was a little guy. Garrett has a medium range (like his dad) and is a joy to watch in the field as you can tell that is the place that he most wants to be. Garrett earned his Junior Hunter title easily. At less than two years of age, he showed me that he was naturally steady. He is now steady to wing and shot. I will begin competing with him in Senior Hunter in the near future. But, right now we are all looking forward to hunting season. The first picture is of Garrett at about 9 months and me training in Massachusetts. The rest of the pictures are of him at two years pointing.

These next two pictues were taken on the same day in Heartland, Michigan. Garrett is on the right in the first picture and on the left in the second picture. Both of these points were Garrett's, and he's being backed by his father, Boone, who was seven years old at the time. And, of course, that is Kyle in his hunting garb.

It seems the only way to get a picture of a Pointer in the field is to call them… Hence, all of the pictures of Garrett are of him running back down the trail to check in. If you look closely, you can see Garrett growing up… here he is running in the summer (4 Months), fall (6 Months), winter (7 months), and spring (11 months).

This is Garrett attempting to swim at 3 months. The way Garrett learned to swim basically describes his personality completely. He could swim the right way, but chose to swim vertically and practically drown himself. But he would retrieve his frisbee no matter what it took. The funny thing was, the house I lived at had an in-ground swimming pool and Garrett refused to go past the first step. But, when there were few dogs in the yard, he used to go out there by himself and swim laps around the pool beautifully. My roommate told me about it, but I didn’t believe her until I saw it for myself from the upstairs window one night. He must have been practicing. Garrett is now an awesome swimmer, just like his dad, Boone.

This is Garrett at 4 months. He has always been a ham for the camera and decided that he needed a photo shoot. The second to last picture of him was taken by a friend who was dogsitting him while I was at work. The last picture of him is at Lake Chouncy.

Garrett managed to cut his ear on something around the house while I was in the next room, so here he is modeling his lovely head wrap I made for him to stop the bleeding. I sometimes wonder how much the dogs appreciate that their mother is a vet student. In the background you can see our remodeling of the floors in progress from carpet to dog-friendly wood laminate. The project is now complete, and we love our new floors.
