Meaning of Name: Saffron means “yellow flower”, but the spice saffron, which we named her after, is reddish brown when dried. As for her registered name: Barba Bagnata is her breeder's kennel name which means "wet beard" which is a feature Spinoni are known for; Zafferana is the feminine Italian form of "saffron"; Ultima is the feminine form of "ultimate"; di Mia means "of Mia" which is her mother's name and also means "of mine". We decided to include Ultima because Saffron is the ultimate dog, and we plan to hunt with her and show her. Also, it is a tribute to her mother Mia, as she is a wonderful dog and this is her last litter. Thus, Ultima di Mia can also be taken as "ultimate of Mia" or "last of Mia".
Nicknames: Hooligan, Gorilla
Special Talents: Coming Soon... Saffron is still learning them
Song: Donovan “Mellow Yellow” (The “I’m Just Mad About Saffron” song)
If you haven’t figured it out just yet, Saffron is not a Pointer. Saffron is a Spinone, which is an Italian pointing breed. Saffron is Kyle’s girl, and the first dog that has truly been his. Kyle will be training Saffron in the field, and possibly do agility with her. I will be handling her in the show ring. Saffron is quite the dog, and has already become an integral part of our family. We look forward to great times ahead with her.
Saffron the Show Dog
Saffron has not yet learned to appreciate the fine art of stacking, so pictures will be coming in the next few months, but we think she is quite the looker.
Saffron the Birddog
This was the first weekend we had Saffron, so she was 9.5 weeks old. She though that the birdwings from Boone and Garrett’s pheasants were pretty cool though.
Here is Saffron at 5 months seeing her first real birds at NAVHDA.

Saffron from five to eight months. The dog she is running with in the field is Andy. It was his first day with us, and she made him feel welcome. The English Setter she's rolling around with on the dog bed is Payton, he was a foster dog seized from a horribly neglectful situation and was feral when we got him. Since Saffron is so good at making the foster dogs feel right at home, we've dubbed her "the ambassador".

Saffron from ten months to 18 months.
